First job in Gilgit

I came to Gilgit in May 2023. I got a job in Gilgit. Summer started in Islamabad. I don’t like summers in Islamabad. I moved to Gilgit. Before going to Gilgit, I got a job in Islamabad, but didn’t join it due to the summer. I made up my mind that I won’t live in Islamabad in the summer. The job started in May 2023, and I moved to Gilgit.

In the first month, I stayed at home alone. I started to take my job responsibilities and became busy. I went to Hunza and attended the Shahoor Foundation's regional workshop for GB, Kashmir, and Islamabad fellows at the Luxus Hotel Hunza.

In the first week of June, I went to Islamabad. I had an appointment at the Austrian embassy. I went to submit my documents and took a flight back to Gilgit. In June, the workload and official responsibilities kept me quite busy. My mother and sister came to Gilgit. In July, the entire family traveled to Gilgit for Eid. I got my visa for Austria. I started my preparation. I went to Islamabad with my cousin and left for Austria on July 10th.

I spent 14 days in Austria. It was a 7-day conference in Vienna. I visited Innsbruck in Austria. I spent a week there and came back to Vienna. I took my flight back to Pakistan on July 24th.

I reached Islamabad and traveled back to Gilgit. I had pending tasks and became busy with them. Since then, I have been living in Gilgit. My job contract ended in September 2023. I was planning to leave for Islamabad in October; however, my younger brother came to Gilgit. He has to appear for exams, and I have some pending tasks to finish.

In October 2023, I received an email from the Pepperdine School stating that I had been accepted into a Master's program in Public Policy. The school has accepted me for the fall 2024 intake. It is 11th November 2023, and I am leaving Islamabad tomorrow.

I have spent a great time in Gilgit. I met with my old friends, spent time with them, visited different places, took care of family businesses, and met new and interesting people.

With every passing day, winter is turning harsh and intense; it seems difficult to stay here in Gilgit. I gave an interview for a Research Associate’s position at the Shahoor Foundation and also applied for the same contract position in Islamabad. I hope to find work and spend my winters in Islamabad. I have to apply for a student visa for the U.S.

With the grace of Allah, I will be able to streamline my things in the future.

 Ameen.
