Role of Governments

Our societies have become increasingly complex, and with each passing day, we face new and challenging issues. As a group of people, we have diverse likes, dislikes, and interests. Sometimes our priorities overlap with those of others, leading us to unintentionally benefit or harm their interests and the environment around us. To manage our affairs and safeguard our rights and priorities, we establish a government.

It is the responsibility of our authorities to determine which issues require urgent attention. I believe that in order to ensure a sustainable future, we must prioritize our current challenges. If we focus all our resources and energy on addressing future intangible issues, we risk undermining both our present and future.

For instance, if we provide education for all, we will have educated societies in the future. When we focus on our infrastructure, we will enhance connectivity in the future. Additionally, investing in research and development in science, technology, and engineering will benefit us and promote sustainability for future generations.

Planning for the future is important, but focusing too much on anticipating future events and challenges while neglecting present issues is not a rational approach. As the saying goes, "When you sow, you will reap." This means that policymakers and authorities have a primary responsibility to address current challenges effectively so that future issues can be minimized.

In a complex world facing sophisticated technological advancements, chronic diseases, inflation, lawlessness, and unemployment, it is irrational to allocate our resources to issues that do not directly impact our lives. Our current problems require urgent attention. If we neglect these pressing issues without concrete efforts to address them, we undermine our future progress and worsen the challenges we will face later on.

It is essential for authorities to prioritize creating a safe, supportive, and flourishing environment that enables people to excel and enjoy their lives. The future is uncertain, and sometimes the challenges we face—such as natural disasters—can be overwhelming. If we were to divert all our resources to address these disasters, it would be impossible to sustain our efforts. Instead, we should focus on improving the present by tackling the significant challenges we currently face in our lives.

To summarize, authorities are established in societies to address our common challenges and resolve our disputes. We provide income to these authorities so they can tackle our current issues. When they divert our resources toward intangible dilemmas in the future, they are misusing their duties and authority.
